Weekend Go-Tos for July 30, 2015

This Saturday, hopeful hounds will compete to be crowned the Bay Area’s Top Dog, but only one will go from “wiener" to "winner.”";s:3:

This Saturday and Sunday, BARTwill stop service between West Oakland and Embarcadero stations for track repairs. For all alternate travel options for this weekend, call 5-1-1 or visit 511.org. Do not fear, we have a few unique suggestions to help you plan your weekend, which ever side of the BART tube that you find yourself.

Tomorrow evening, the 35th Annual Jewish Film Festival will host a free talk at the Castro Theater, starting at 5:00 p.m. Can a movie change the world? That’s the theme of the discussion. Panelists include filmmakers Rick Goldsmith, Judith Helfand, Aviva Kempner and Melissa Donovan, and will be facilitated by Academy Award–winning Documentarian Debra Chasnoff.

The Space Station Museum in Novato celebrates SpaceFest 2015 this Saturday. Astronauts from Apollo 15 will be in attendance. There will also be special events going on throughout the day, including Q&A sessions. You can see the full schedule at their website. This free festival kicks off at 10:00 a.m.

 

Also on Saturday, the Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationalsturns 20 years old. What’s the Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals you ask? It’s the annual event where the Bay Area’s finest dachshunds dash to the finish line, competing to be crowned the Bay Area’s Top Dog. Everyone is welcomed to watch the race, starting at 12:30 p.m. at the Santa Clara County Fairground’s North Lawn in San Jose. More details can be found at wwnraces.com.
