Weekend Go-Tos for April 15, 2016

Here's our cherry picked selection of community events happening around the Bay Area this weekend.

This evening, you’re invited to attend an evening of live performances, curated by the award-winning arts and culture podcast, The Organist, produced by McSweeney’s, along with the Believer magazine and KCRW. The evening will feature a musically illustrated interview with Christopher Owens (of the band GIRLS), followed by a live set of music, along with storytelling performances from some of the best writers and radio producers based in the Bay Area, including NamwaliSerpell, Jorge Just, and more. The event begins at 7:45pm at the outdoor PROXY theater at 432 Octavia Street in San Francisco. The event is free, but you're recommended to RSVP ahead of time.

This Sunday, you won’t want to miss KALW’sSights & Sounds East Oaklandevent. The afternoon will feature community stories told live by Oakland Voices' citizen journalists, plus musical and dance performances by Young Gifted and Black, TURF FEINZ, La MisaNegra. The party kicks of all 3:00 p.m. at the Odell Johnson Theater at Laney College. To guarantee yourself a seat, RSVP at sightsandsoundslive.org

Zines, workshops, & authors this Sunday at 924 Gilman.

Also this Sunday, 924 Gilman in Berkeley will host an all-ageszinefest, featuring books, zines, and comics from dozens of local, indie publishers. There will also be stations for kids and teens to make their own zines, workshops on how to launch that zine you’ve been dreaming of, and readings from local authors. The event lasts all day, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and admission is free. More details can be found at 924gilman.org.
