Mafalda was a strip run in Argentina between 1964 and 1973, created by the great Quino, who used her and her friends to comment on contemporary issues from a child's perspective. Someone once tried to get Mafalda published in the USA, but the answer they got was that 'Mafalda was too sophisticated for children.' That's a damn shame, Mafalda is one of the best comic strips ever created, beloved in South America and many European countries, and she's even an official spokesperson of UNICEF, an incredble honour for a comic book character.
1972 – China–Japan relations: Japan establishes diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China after breaking official ties with the Republic of China.
