The Spot: What keeps us together

Feb 11, 2016

This week on KALW's showcase for the best stories from public radio podcasts and independent radio producers...

"The Rule of 3's," recorded at the San Francisco StoryCorps' booth, 2012.

Local couple, Dy and Jen, found the sign that they were on the right path together within a single number. You can find more stories from the San Francisco StoryCorps booth by searching storycorps.org.

"Samara + Kelsey," produced by Samara Breger for The Heart, January 2016.

It bleeds, it beats, it wants, and it's also a podcast.

Soon after they met, Samara’s dad was hospitalized for a mysterious and dangerous illness, and Kelsey decided to spend every night at the hospital with Samara and her family. As the two fell in love — within the confines of the hospital — a new decision appeared on the horizon: Would they keep loving each other when things were okay? Or did they need chaos and tragedy to keep them going?

This story was produced by Samara Breger and Kaitlin Prest, with editing help from Mitra Kaboli. If you like stories about love, specifically the nuances that come with falling in love, falling out of love, and deciding what love even means in your life, than The Heart has so much to offer you, and more. Find out how to subscribe to The Heart at radiotopia.fm or theheartradio.org.

"The Penguin Goes a Courtin'," written and performed by Jonathan Goldstein, originally aired on This American Life in 2003.

If you want to hear more radio pieces by Jonathan, search for him at thisamericanlife.org or listen to the archives of his former CBC show, WireTap, on its podcast feed in iTunes.

This week's episode featured music from: Black Moth Super Rainbow, Django Reinhardt, Phantom Planet, Boards of Canada, Arcade Fire, and of Montreal.
