In 2014, Peabody Award-winning Radio Reporter Tina Antolini partnered with Southern Foodways Alliance, to create the podcast Gravy that documents, studies, and celebrates the diverse food cultures of the changing American South. Gravy uses food as a means to explore all of that, as well as to dig into lesser-known corners of the region, complicate stereotypes, document new dynamics, and give voice to the unsung folk who grow, cook, and serve our daily meals.
In this episode of Gravy, we’re reminded that even when hyper local identities and traditions seem to be slipping away, it can be prime ground for a hidden history to pop up and revive community interests that were almost lost.
