The Splendid Table Debuts in the Bay Area

Have you heard? The Splendid Table is here to stay...thanks to your positive feedback! And, yes, we think it’s high time the Bay gets its own food show, too. Look out in the coming months for special Bay Area food culture programming. In the meantime, tune in to KALW. // Every Saturday at 1 pm

September 6 – Matt and Ted Lee join us with tales from their book Hot Box, Inside Catering, the Food World’s Riskiest Business; America’s Test Kitchen brings us the tools and recipes we need to cook for a real crowd; and chef Kwame Onwuachi, author of Notes From a Young Black Chef, swaps catering horror stories with Francis.

September 13 – Francis inherited a chunk of pu'er tea from his grandfather years ago. He learns the story of that inheritance and tastes it for the first time with tea master, Tim Hsu. Also, national women's rights activist Cecile Richards finds that cooking with her family is exactly what she needs to take care of herself in these turbulent times.

September 20 – Best-selling author and food critic Ruth Reichl talks with Soleil Ho, the newish food critic for the San Francisco Chronicle about stepping into big shoes; fruit farmers Mas and Nikiko Masumoto talk about passing the farm from father to daughter; Ed Levine and Kenji Lopez-Alt talk about where their collaboration on the cult website Serious Eats has taken them

September 27 – We're looking at the life of the legendary chef and writer Edna Lewis. We talk to Sara B. Franklin, editor of the anthology Edna Lewis; culinary historian Jessica Harris; and author Toni Tipton-Martin. Also, Nina Williams-Mbengue brings us remembrances from her life living with her aunt, Edna.
