Sights & Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene through the eyes and ears of local artists. This week, Jenee Dardens sits down with singer-songwriter Graham Norwood to hear his recommendations for three arts events happening in the Bay Area this weekend.
- Los Straightjackets at The Ivy Room, Thursday night at 8 p.m.
- Hot Lunch 13th anniversary show at Bottom of the Hill, Friday night at 8:30 p.m.
- The Whateverglades at The Golden Bull, Saturday night at 8pm
Los Straightjackets are known for their energetic performances while clad in Mexican wrestler masks and black suits. They’ve been featured on Conan O’Brien’s show. The band is loved for their great guitar instrumentals and they’ll be bringing that energy to the Ivy Room in Albany on Thursday night.
Hot Lunch is a long running local favorite band. Their aggressive, Punk-n-Roll music will be driving some moshing and slam dancing as they celebrate their 13th anniversary on Friday--which is also Friday the 13th!
If you’re into down-home country music, check out the Whateverglades at the Golden Bull in Downtown Oakland on Saturday. Have some fun while also supporting a good cause. The show is a fundraiser for the Alameda County Food Bank.
Graham Norwood’s debut album is called Out of the Sea. Check out his performance with The Ugly on Thursday night at The Golden Bull.
