Sights & Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene. Dwayne Morgan from the Sons of Soul Revivers told KALW’s Devon Strolovitch about three great arts events happening around the Bay this week.

Afroholix treats the notion of genre like paint on a palette, mixing and remixing soul, funk, and jazz at every show. A night might include everything form covers of James Brown, Mary J. Blige, and Jill Scott to a special blend of original music. They'll be playing at Fenix Live in San Rafael at 8 p.m. on Thursday, 7/27.

MORGAN: They’re going to bring old school, little bit of 80s and 90s, even 70s R&B, soul, and funk. They’re going to groove you.

John Németh grew up in Idaho and fell in love with the blues. He once made his home in the Bay Area, soaking up the special sound of East Bay grease from San Francisco and Oakland musicians. While he’s since moved away from the coast, he’s returning to San Francisco to play his special blend of harmonica-driven blues and sweet blue-eyed soul at Biscuits and Blues on July 28 at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.

MORGAN: He keeps it real blues. He doesn't try to upgrade it or anything.

Neil Diamond is celebrating the 50th anniversary of his unique career with a world tour that's stopping in San Jose. On top of selling over 125 million albums internationally, winning a Grammy, being inducted into both the Rock and Roll and Songwriters Hall of Fames, he also received a Kennedy Center Honor in 2011 recognizing how he's shaped the sound of music in America. He’ll be playing at the SAP Center in San Jose on July 30 at 8 p.m.

MORGAN: When you have versatility, that means you can go anywhere. Believe me, Neil Diamond is going to pack the place out wherever he’s going to be.
