Open Air will broadcast each episode as part of our Corona Radio Theater, starting on July 9 with the noir detective series "Jade, For Hire, episode one: The Mystery of the Missing Worker" - Looking for work in a nation in the midst of a race and class war with itself can’t be easy…
We talk about San Francisco’s acclaimed Merola Opera Program which had to cancel its traditional summer training program and Summer Festival due to COVID-19. In lieu of this summer’s live concerts and classes, the public is invited to join San Francisco Opera Center Director and Merola Artistic Director Sheri Greenawald for free Master Chats with luminaries from the performing arts world, a series of four conversations to be broadcast live on YouTube. From July 8-30 music lovers will be given an exclusive look behind-the-scenes, as experts from opera and Broadway stages share their insights and experience.
Plus, Open Air’s regular contributor and critic at large Peter Robinson reviews two engaging books, "Chasing Chopin: A Musical Journey Across Three Centuries, Four Countries, and a Half-Dozen Revolutions," by Annik LaFarge; and "The Biggest Bluff – How I Learned to Pay Attention, Master Myself, and Win" by Maria Konnikova; and he remembers a number of significant anniversaries for 2020.
