Radio Poet Emily

Hear a different poet at 6:49 a.m. Monday - Thursday throughout the month of April, which is National Poetry Month. Today's poet is Emily reading, "My Life." National Poetry Month was originally organized by the Academy of American Poets as a way to increase awareness and appreciation of poetry in the United States.

For several years KALW has partnered with America Scores and the San Francisco United School District to bring you original poems written by young students, read in their own voice.

My Life, by Emily C.

I am from the United States where I like to play

It is very crazy I any which way

I am from a building that is tall where I can sleep

like people who are glad that they’re under the sheets

I’m from the third floor

where I can see my friends

and the neighbor at the street at the end

I am from the united stats

and I feel very happy where I am

playing with my friend

saying come on!

So I guess that’s the end

Kevin Vance created a program of folk music for KALW, A Patchwork Quilt, in October 1991. He grew up in Berkeley during the 1960s and '70s and spent his years learning in public schools, community colleges, bookstores, libraries, and non-commercial radio stations, as well as from the people around him. When he's not on the radio, then he's selling books, taking care of his family, listening to music, entering stuff into a computer, or taking a class.
