One Planet: Photojournalist Jo-Anne McArthur documents our relationship with animals

Jo-Anne McArthur
Appolinaire Ndohoudou and Pikin, Ape Action Africa, Cameroon, 2009. Many baby apes are orphaned when their mothers are killed for bushmeat. Pikin, a juvenile gorilla, was rescued and is cared for by Ape Action Africa

On this edition of  Your Call’s One Planet Series, award winning photographer Jo-Anne McArthur joins us to discuss her decade long We Animals project, which documents the plight of animals around the world.

She says her work aims to break down the barriers that allow us to treat non-human animals as objects and not as sentient beings. How are photos redefining our relationship with animals?

Guest:

Jo-Anne McArthur, award-winning photographer, founder of We Animals, and author of We Animals and Captive
