For about a year and a half now, KALW has been popping into the 81st Avenue East Oakland library to record the stories of the people who live and work in the neighborhood. Michael Lefall spoke with us about the importance of role models.
MICHAEL LEFALL: Without a doubt I definitely idolized my uncle because he is the type of person that I would want to be and want to emulate. What he continued to remind me of was the fact that I had to be a man. That was the number one issue. Because manhood these days, it seems pretty iffy for some people. I think they don’t stand very strong on that issue. If you take responsibility for your behavior and your family and your community, you’ve done what you can in order to make that difference, in order to say that I’m having an impact on your community.
