Fog City Blues Double-Header: Hurricane Sam and Midtown Social

The Back Room in Berkeley will celebrate its one-year anniversary on April 15 when Hurricane Sam & the Hotshots bring their unique brand of “boogie, blues and jazz” to the intimate, brick-laden venue.

The Back Room offers a wonderfully casual and homey atmosphere that has excited musicians and audiences since its opening in 2016. And who better to crown this anniversary than the creator and owner of the Back Room, piano wizard Sam Rudin (aka Hurricane Sam)? Rudin can evoke the spirit of Fats Waller, Oscar Peterson, Mose Alison, and Jerry Lee Lewis—sometimes all at the same time. It was Sam's vision to create a place that would welcome all acoustically-based genres, including jazz, blues, folk, bluegrass, and more.

Deeply inspiring and guaranteed to make you sweat just as much as it makes you think, Midtown Socialpresents a message of solidarity and hope, voiced by a community of people who are as diverse, bold, authentic, and vulnerable as the community in which they were forged. Midtown Social asks us all to come together, to find common ground, love and camaraderie, to fight for our communities, way of life, and rights—and to stand together as one. Now San Francisco’s favorite soul party band is back with their first full-length release and a party this Saturday at Mezzanine in San Francisco.
