On this edition of Your Call, we’ll speak with history Professor Peter Cole about his new book, Dockworker Power: Race and Activism in Durban and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Cole says dockworkers in San Francisco and Durban, South Africa successfully struggled for justice, not just in the fight for better wages, but also in the fight against imperialism and racism. He looks at their activism from the 1940s to today. What can we learn from this often forgotten history? And what are the working conditions like for today’s dockworkers?

Guest:

Dr. Peter Cole, professor of history at Western Illinois University and author of Dockworker Power: Race and Activism in Durban and the San Francisco Bay Area
