Psychology studies suggest rising wealth means more jerks in S.F. // SF Gate
"If it seems that San Franciscans are getting more entitled and self-absorbed, a series of psychology studies performed at UC Berkeley indicates there could be a scientific reason: the city’s increasing wealth.
"Paul Piff, an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology and Social Behavior at UC Irvine (he moved from UC Berkeley just a few weeks ago), has spent the past decade conducting about 50 studies on how wealthy people and poorer people behave in the same situations.
"Again and again, he’s found a common thread: Rich people are more likely to behave unethically even if they get very little benefit."

Muni anti-Islam hate ads defaced with Islamic superhero // SF Examiner
"Muni buses city-wide have featured anti-Islam ads from the American Freedom Defense Initiative off and on over the years. Just two weeks ago they resurfaced again, linking Islam to Hitler.
"Now activists are fighting the vitriolic bus-ads themselves, plastering the images of Hitler with images of Kamala Khan, a 16-year-old Muslim super hero, from Marvel comics, according to Facebook group Street Cred -- Advertising for the People, who posted photos of the activism."

California Kaiser Permanente Nurses Reach Contract Agreement // NBC Bay Area
"Kaiser Permanente nurses in California approved a new contract that boosts pay and improves patient care along with health and safety protections for nurses, a union official said Monday.
"Registered nurses and nurse practitioners who work at 21 hospitals and 65 clinics across Northern and Central California voted last week to approve the new three-year deal, the California Nurses Association said."

San Rafael Temporarily Shuts Down Park Overrun By Homeless // CBS SF
"A neighborhood park north of downtown San Rafael has been closed for at least 30 days because officials say it’s overrun by homeless people who do drugs and commit crimes.
"The tennis courts and children’s playground at Boyd Memorial Park have been abandoned and families just don’t seem to go there anymore. Mayor Gary Phillips called the park, with its litter, vandalism and abandoned drug paraphernalia, a 'health and security issue.'"
