"Black Lives Matter protesters are spending the night outside the Oakland police union headquarters, some are chained to the building.

Protesters chained themselves to the doors of the Oakland Police Officers' Association Wednesday night. Some secured U-locks around their necks. One demonstrator said this symbolizes how the black community feels."

Elon Musk sees pickups, semi-trucks, solar panels and ride-sharing in Tesla's future // San Jose Mercury News

"Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Wednesday detailed an ambitious new vision to fill the highways with electric pickup trucks, tractor-trailers and buses, flawless self-driving systems and a robust ride-sharing network.



Musk also renewed his call for Tesla to acquire SolarCity to make it easier for customers to fully integrate sustainable products in their homes and businesses. "The faster we achieve sustainability," Musk wrote, "the better.""

Berkeley student is youngest California delegate at RNC // Berkeley News

"UC Berkeley students are known for bucking trends, and Claire Chiara is no exception.

Chiara, a 22-year-old senior majoring in political science and economics, is the youngest member of the California delegation at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. She’s an outspoken conservative and Trump supporter, setting her apart from many of her liberal peers."

Oakland voters will get their say on stricter rent control // SFGate

"Citing escalating rents that tenant advocates call a threat to Oakland’s character, the City Council threw its support Wednesday behind a November ballot measure that would limit property owners’ ability to charge more and carry out evictions.

The council voted unanimously to approve the measure, which was introduced by Councilwoman Rebecca Kaplan, after a four-hour debate that began Tuesday evening and ended well after midnight."

SF advances plans to blend Hetch Hetchy water with groundwater // SF Examiner

"San Francisco’s plan to mix groundwater with Hetch Hetchy drinking water advanced Wednesday along with a plan to use recycled water for Golden Gate Park irrigation.

The proposal comes as California’s ongoing drought is pushing cities across the state to do more to conserve water and to increase use of recycled water in place of potable water."
