San Francisco police chief releases officers' racist texts// New York Times

"SAN FRANCISCO — Police Chief Gregory P. Suhr on Friday announced that all officers on the San Francisco force would be required to complete anti-bias training as he released nine pages of racist text messages between three officers that further tarnished the image of a department under federal investigation."

"But the city’s public defender and experts on criminal justice said the texts appeared to reveal a deep culture of bias in the 2,000-member force that contradicts the city’s image of tolerance and liberalism."

Refusing food and compromise, 'Frisco Five' to meet with mayor // Mission Local

"Ten days into a hunger strike led by local musicians, teachers and a politician, the group of starving activists told their supporters at a rally on Saturday that they will meet with the mayor in person on Tuesday."

"It’s unclear if the mayor has agreed to Tuesday’s meeting, but regardless, the hunger strikers, recently dubbed the “Frisco Five,” said that unless the mayor complies with their demands on Tuesday  – including the firing of Police Chief Greg Suhr – they are prepared to continue the protest."
