Speaking of cashmoney, campaign treasurer Kinde Durkee is still under investigation for misuse of her clients’ political funds. Yesterday, federal prosecutors seized a number of computers that may contain information relevant to the case. Preliminary hearings had been scheduled for today, but have now been moved back to March 16th to give the prosecution time to examine the new evidence...

California State Senator Leland Yee has introduced a bill that would require state agencies to release the findings of any investigation into complaints of fraud, abuse or waste. The identity of the initial whistleblowers will be kept anonymous…

Another bill proposed on Monday looks to lower the penalty for possession of drugs–including heroin, cocaine and methamphetamines–from a felony to a misdemeanor. Thirteen other states have already adopted similar measures. Penalties for those charged with manufacturing or distribution would not change. The bill’s sponsor, Senator Mark Leno, argues that the shift would ease the burden on California’s overcrowded prisons…
