Oakland on track for adult use in 2018 // East Bay Times

“The [city] council voted unanimously to move forward with measures authored by Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan to provide temporary local regulations for taxing and regulating cannabis. Kaplan said the amendments were necessary to ensure that approvals for adult use permits don’t get stalled in Revenue and Planning departments because of ‘cross-departmental delays.’”

Police won’t take guns from medical patients / Star Advertiser

“The [Honolulu Police] department issued a notice Tuesday, saying it is consulting with other governmental agencies, as well as reviewing recent court rulings regarding the issue. HPD said it will, however, continue to deny new firearm permits to applicants with medical marijuana cards.

“The reconsideration follows community backlash since the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported last week that HPD has sent letters to at least 30 medical cannabis users who are permitted gun owners telling them to surrender their firearms.”

That said, he does not endorse smoking. "’I don't want 10 years down the road where we're seeing an epidemic of lung cancer among folks who are smoking medical marijuana," [Jerome] Adams said.

Emerald Cup honors NORML director // The Emerald Cup

“Dale Gieringer has been the state director of California NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) since 1987.  In this capacity, he has spoken with thousands of medical marijuana users and is the author of “Marijuana Medical Handbook,” among other credits.

Dale will receive a lifetime achievement award during this year’s Emerald Cup at the Sonoma Fairgrounds this weekend.
