Lifting of review requirement seen as “huge step forward” // Huffingtonpost.com   “More research is needed.” How often have you read that concerning cannabis? But little could be done because Public Health Service review requirements were difficult to meet. The White House removed that requirement this week.

Who gets the water, fish or marijuana? // Times-standard.com  “The combination of the drought and rogue grows have resulted in unprecedented fish kills, have put endangered species on the brink in many California watersheds, and are hammering away at our coastal and port economy,” North Coast state senator says. He has called for a forum on July 1 in Sacramento to discuss concerns and solutions.

Illegal shops issued illegal prescriptions // UTSandiego.com    The owner of six San Diego County shops forged a doctor’s signature.

Vallejo accepting dispensary applications // Timesheraldonline.com   Rules provide for one medical marijuana dispensary in each quadrant of the city.

Vallejo petition drive to over-rule dispensary closures // EastBayExpress.com  “The petition is a response to a May 26 ordinance in Vallejo, closing all dispensaries and rejecting millions of dollars in voter-approved medical cannabis taxes.”

Colorado customers spending at half of 2014 levels // MJbizdaily.com   Increased competition from more recreational stores and medical dispensaries seems to be the main cause.

HEALTH

Is “medical marijuana” a hoax? // SFGate.com   A study of 6,000 patients shows “weak evidence” of effectiveness for concerns such as anxiety and sleep disorders. As always, more research is needed. [See first story above, under “Legalization.”]

Patients usually don’t get what they pay for // NPR.org  Levels of THC and CBD in test purchases were accurate only 17 percent of the time. [See above story.]
