TraVaughn Hicks has been making music since he was a young boy and his rapper uncle would record him singing on his songs.
“I only really started doing my own music stuff once my grandpa made me a computer,” says Hicks. “Me and my brother liked to sit in his room with his laptop and just sit and free style.”
After a few years of tinkering around with beats at home, Hicks discovered the youth-run recording studio inside Sunset Youth Services in San Francisco. It’s called Upstar Records. And it’s where Hicks, now 19 years old, has been working on his first album called The Man Behind the Pen. He shares some of the tracks in this edition of Bay Area Beats.
