Audiograph's Sound of the Week: Aunt Charlie's Lounge

Mar 10, 2016

All week long we've been playing one sound, and asking you to guess what exactly it is and where exactly in the Bay Area we recorded it.

This auditory guessing game is part of Audiograph, a crowd-sourced collaborative radio project mapping the Bay Area’s sonic signature. Audiograph tells the story of where you live and the people who live there with you. Every Thursday, we tell you the story behind our weekly mystery sound on Crosscurrents and here in weekly blog posts.

"We're fabulous we're gay, we're friendly, we are out there. Whatever you want to do, come to the Tenderloin and let's do it. Just don't hurt anybody."

Check out James Hosking's documentary film "Beautiful by Night" here.  The film will be shown at the Roxie Theater on  April 7th, with a panel discussion featuring the filmmaker and some of the longtime performers at Aunt Charlie's.

Our winner today is Ronn Robinson!
