1579 – Sir Francis Drake, a privateer (which is a nice way of calling someone a “Pirate”, and a slave trader ) claims a land he calls Nova Albion for England.  That land was where the Coast Miwok people lived in the area where we call now Point Reyes in Marin County.

1885 – The Statue of Liberty arrives in New York Harbor.

1898 – The United States Navy Hospital Corps is established.
