'All the Women in My Family Sing' celebrates women writers of color

A 2015 industry survey found that about 80 percent of those working in publishing are white.

"All the Women in My Family Sing" is on a different beat. The anthology is a passionate blend of personal stories by women of color from all walks of life — and women of color took part in the entire production of the book.

 

KALW's Hana Baba sat down with editor Deborah Santana and Kira Lynne Allen,one of the book’s writers.

 

"With a woman of color editor there's an allowance that doesn't exist in some other spaces, in a dominant space. Because there isn't the questioning."
