On this special edition of Your Call, we discuss the country’s most extreme anti-abortion ban, signed yesterday by Alabama Governor Kay Ivey.
The bill makes abortions a felony, even in cases of rape and incest. The only exception is if the mother’s life is at serious risk or what the bill calls a fetal anomaly. Those who perform the procedure will face up to 99 years in prison.
According to the New York Times, abortion services will still be available in Alabama for the time being. At the earliest, the measure would take effect in six months. Planned Parenthood and the ACLU are planning to challenge the measure in court. What’s next?
