On-Air: Native Stories & Voices

Producer Jaclyn Roessel standing on the Navajo Nation Heritage Trail, Warren Montoya

We're airing a special lineup of documentaries as we close out 2018 and transition into the new year. It's just a taste of what's to come in 2019 as we invest more airtime and support for independent radio makers and podcasters in the Bay Area and beyond.

Sun., Dec. 30, 6-7 p.m. Documentary: 150 Years After the Navajo Long Walk

In 1864, a forced-march policy widely known as the Long Walk and engineered by frontiersman Kit Carson, drove thousands of Navajo as much as 400 miles from Arizona to New Mexico. In this doc, Jaclyn Roessel traces her family history and reckons with the hardships that come from a deeper understanding of historical trauma.
