This week marks one month since Nia Wilson, an African-American teenager, was fatally stabbed at an Oakland BART station by a white man. People in the community are still hurt and angry.

The Wilson family is in the process of filing a lawsuit against BART. Accused killer John Lee Cowell is facing multiple charges that carry life sentences. As Oakland continues to grieve, some in the African American community feel his attack was racially motivated and want him charged with a hate crime. Others in the city disagree.

KALW reporter Jeneé Darden discusses this along with ways the community has come together to try and heal from this tragedy.

"The sound healing gathering was beautiful yet raw. I got the sense that Black women in the room were not only grieving the tragedy surround Nia Wilson, but emotional over the racial climate and racial violence happening around the country."
