"3 Still Standing" showcases Bay Area comedians

The documentary "3 Still Standing" will be showing at theRoxieTheater starting this Friday.

The film looks at comedians Will Durst, Johnny Steele, and Larry Bubbles Brown – all three of whom seemed poised for stardom during the comedy club boom of the '80s, but whose careers never quite hit the national stage. The film shows the triumphs, struggles and dedication of the performers, still plying the craft that they love.

KALW’s Jen Chien spoke with San Francisco husband-and-wife directing team Robert Campos and Donna LoCicero about where the idea for the film came from.

DONNA LOCICERO: We were huge fans of comedy back then. I mean it really was the most fun you could have on a night out, in the 80s. It had this kind of energy like you'd go in and you'd feel like anything could happen.
