Corona Radio Theater: The Marsh’s Don Reed & Kate Robards – Theater Rhino – Tips from Listeners

This week on Open Air, KALW’s live radio magazine for the Bay Area Performing Arts in Times of Corona, the virtual stage of Open Air’s Corona Radio Theater will be cleared for The Marsh San Francisco, with two of the theater’s best-known artists, Don Reed and Kate Robards.

Writer, actor and performer Don Reed is perhaps best known from That Don Reed Show- his own variety show featuring irreverent sketches, edgy stand-up, short films, and music. Texas-born and NYC-based writer and performer Kate Robards performed her latest solo-play PolySHAMory! at The Marsh only a few months ago, in January.

In response to the Corona Crisis, The Marsh San Francisco started offering nightly programming (7:30pm) on MarshStream, its newly launched Broadcast Platform. Content varies daily and includes, among other things, Monday Night MarshStream (short performances by a variety of artists), Wild Card TuesdaysWednesday Solo ArtsHeal (stories of health, advocacy, and inspiration); and Stephanie’s MarshStream on Thursday nights - interview, bantering, Q&A, and performance excerpts with Marsh favorites, moderated by Marsh founder Stephanie Weisman; she joins the conversation on Open Air.

Robards and Reed were featured together on a recent Solo Performer Spotlight episode of MarshStream, where Don Reed shared a potpourri of true tales, both hilarious and heartbreaking; and Kate Robards performed excerpts from her most recent hit shows Ain’t That Rich and PolySHAMory!

Theater Rhinoceros, the longest running LGBT theatre in the nation, offers weekly free live presentations via Facebook and Zoom. This week’s show is titled Zoom Catastrophe, about “The Zoom meeting from hell! What happens when you have the most important meeting of your life, and tech and the world just aren’t on your side?” The Rhino’s artistic director, playwright, director and actor John Fisher, explains. Zoom Catastrophe will have one live performance only, on May 14 at 8pm. Preregister Here

Plus, Open Air’s regular contributor and critic at large, Peter Robinson, reports on what Open Air listeners are doing during social distancing, including home schooling, and learning a 6-line speech from Shakespeare’s Macbeth

Open Air with host David Latulippe will be broadcast on Thursday, May 14 at 1pm. Audio will be available right here afterwards.
