Call Me Ace's Weekend Picks

Miss Lopez Media
The artist side and business side to Call Me Ace

Sights and Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene through the eyes and ears of local artists. We're changing things up a bit due to the shelter-in-place order.  This week host Jenee Darden chats with hip-hop artist Call Me Ace about three arts events for you to see, hear and do right from home.

**Correction: Jenee mistakenly said Madame C.J. Walker was the first self-made millionaire. Walker was the first self-made female millionaire.

Self Made

This Netflix series is inspired by the life of Madame C.J. Walker. Walker was the first self-made female millionaire in the United States. She attained wealth through her lines of African-American hair products and beauty products. Academy-Award winning actress Octavia Spencer plays the late entrepreneur and philanthropist.

The Yeah Wellness Check-In

For the entire week, former music executive Shanti Das is in conversation with celebrities about wellness, self care and coping during the pandemic. Former Warriors player Chris Webber will be one of the guests. Das is a mental health advocate who has been open about her struggles with depression and losing a father to suicide. She has worked with top ‘90s hip-hop artists including Outkast and TLC. Watch these discussions at 12:30pm on Shanti Das’ Instagram Live.

Burds Eye View Vol 1

A recommended Spotify playlist is a first for Sights & Sounds!  Burds Eye View Vol 1 is  from the Bay Area label Inner Haven Music. It features up-and-coming local artists. The sounds vary from hard hip hop beats to chill jazzy beats. Artists include DJ Chrissy Chris, Kiyomi, Leo the Youth and Brant Jackson.

Call me Ace's latest EP is Working from Home. His first full-length album is Airplane Mode
