This week on Open Air, host David Latulippe talks with award-winning playwright Christopher Chen, about the world premiere of his new play ‘You Mean to Do Me Harm’ at San Francisco Playhouse, which runs from June 6 - July 2 and is part of the ‘Sandbox Series’ of new works.

Also, a conversation with Ryan Brown, executive director and co-founder of Switchboard, which holds its 10th annual festivalof new music on June 10, at Z Space in San Francisco, featuring (among others) two man band Billygoat; Bay Area’s first reed quintet Splinter Reeds; and the Kronos Quartet. 

Also stopping by are Jon Tracy and Stephanie Anne Johnson from TheatreFIRST in Berkeley, to share details about the world premiere of ‘HeLa’ by Lauren Gunderson and Geetha Reddy. HeLa evokes and explores the story of Henrietta Lacks, the African-American woman whose hard life and young death produced the most powerful line of immortal cells the world has ever seen. Through June 17.

And from San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program, we meet with Aria Umezawa, who directs its 60th Anniversary Gala Concert on June 11, which kicks off Merola’s 60th anniversary season.
