Weekend Go-Tos for October 21, 2016

Catch Nemo Gould's "Megalodon" before it swims off to the East Coast.

We have a few suggestions for you on what to do around our Bay Area this weekend.

Tonight is the opening evening of the Fairfax Irish Music Festival. Jigs, reels, and singing voices can be heard inside and out of pubs and cafés in the North Bay town all weekend long. Featuring performances from The Gallowglasses, Lark, The Pure Drops, Riggy Rackin, and dozens more. Find the full details and schedule at fairfaxirishfestival.com

Sculptor Nemo Gould will launch his first solo exhibition in many years this Saturday evening in Oakland. Gould is known for his kinetic sculptures constructed from found materials, especially metals. Included in his new works will also be "Megalodon," transformed from salvaged parts of a F-94 bomber plane into a shark-shaped home for miniature displays. The opening reception is this Saturday, 6-9pm at 471 9th Street in Oakland.

And finally, a reminder that the next two weeks are your last to experience Stanley Kubrick: The Exhibition at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco. From annotated scripts, production photos, lenses and cameras, set models, and props, the exhibit shows a comprehensive collection of the tools Kubrick used to create his powerful and eerie masterpieces -- and not just the most popular films are represented, there’s a lot of Kubrick deep cuts celebrated in the exhibit too. Find museum hours and ticket information at thecjm.org.
