This week on Open Air, host David Latulippe talks with Russel Blackwood, Artistic Director of Thrillpeddlers, and co-director of Shocktoberfest 17: Pyramid of Freaks’, the Annual Extravaganza of Terror & Titillation, opening this weekend at The Hypnodrome in San Francisco.

Also, Hawaii-born, San Francisco-based journalist Constance Hale stops by to discuss her new book ‘The Natives Are Restless’, about San Francisco hula master Patrick Makuakāne and his role in the preservation and development of this traditional Hawaiian dance form. New and updated performances of ‘The Natives Are Restless’, Makuakane’s iconic dance show from 1966 after which the book is named, are starting this week at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre.

Via phone we check in with conductor Michael Morgan, artistic director of the Oakland Symphony about the orchestra’s concert season opener, this Friday at the Paramount Theater in Oakland, featuring music by Suprinowicz, Juon, Mahler and Elgar.

And actor Brian Dykstra tells us about the play ‘Seared’, currently at San Francisco Playhouse, in which he lays the lead character. The new play, written by TV and theater writer Theresa Rebeck, was commissioned by SF Playhouse and is set in the kitchen of a Brooklyn restaurant.

Open Air with host David Latulippe; heard live on Thursday, October 13 at 1pm. Listen now or anytime…
