Out of Uganda: Bay Area groups resettling LGBT refugees

After disclosing his homosexuality on national radio, gospel singer Danny was kidnapped, tortured, beaten and dumped on a roadside by Ugandan security forces.  He had to flee his home country and the persecution he faced there – persecution brought to Uganda in part by a group of secretive, politically-connected Washington, DC-based conservative extremists called “The Family.” With the help of the Organization for Refuge, Asylum, and Migration (ORAM) and Jewish Family and Children’s Services of the East Bay (JFCS/East Bay), Danny has resettled in the Bay Area where he finally feels safe and free. Avi Rose of JFCS/East Bay, Neil Grungras of ORAM, and Danny Dyson tell his harrowing story and how they are helping LGBT people in countries around the world where homosexuality brings severe penalties.
