On Saturday, more than 1900 people came to The Paramount Theatre in Oakland to hear Tavis Smiley & Dr. Cornel West talk about their new book The Rich and the Rest of Us: A Poverty Manifesto.

In the lobby, KALW was joined by Youth Radio and more than a dozen local organizations that are making a difference in the effort to create a more just economy from the bottom up:  Alameda County Food Bank, ACCE, Causa Justa/JustCause, the Center for Urban Schools and Partnerships at Mills College, EARN, East Bay Community Foundation, the East Bay Community Foundation, EBASE, the East Oakland Community Project, Ella Baker Center, the Family Independence Initiative, PICO California, San Francisco Food Bank, United Way Bay Area, The Unity Council, Urban Habitat, and the Women's Economic Agenda Project.

The event was free and open to the public thanks to the support of KALW listeners, as well as dozens of station volunteers and staff members who came together and gave of themselves to make the night a great success.

One of those volunteers was Rob Guettler, who had his camera with him and has now posted dozens of great photos from the event here.
