The story of indie act Broken Bells supports the idea that genius really does love company. The Shins' frontman James Mercer and renowned producer Brian Burton, a.k.a. Danger Mouse, met at a Danish music festival in 2004. Four years later, Broken Bells was born when the two started to record in Burton’s Los Angeles studio.
The duo's self-titled debut was released in March and received a warm welcome from All Songs Considered listeners, who ranked it No. 4 on our list of the best music of 2010 so far. With Mercer’s knack for melody, along with Burton’s deft gift for atmosphere, Broken Bells pleased fans of both members' previous work.
