Little Feat Asks Friends To 'Join The Band'

Visiting New York City to promote the latest Little Feat album, Paul Barrere, Bill Payne, Fred Tackett and Shawn Murphy paid a visit to WFUV's studios in September 2008. For a bluesy rock band that started nearly four decades ago — and 30 years ago lost its best-known member, Lowell George — Little Feat continues to thrive against the odds.

Little Feat has made a lot of friends over the years, so it seemed like a natural fit to invite some of those folks to join the band for their latest CD, appropriately titled Join the Band. Dave Matthews, Emmylou Harris and Bob Seger are just a few of the musicians who reinterpret and just slightly reinvent a bunch of Little Feat classics, while Jimmy Buffett serves as the executive producer.

During our session, we talked about how the project came to be and explored the surprising musical history and diversity of Little Feat, while listeners got to enjoy a warm and funky set of down-home Feat favorites.

Originally recorded Sept. 23, 2008.
