Tom Morello, Sonya Kitchell In Concert

Tom Morello and Sonya Kitchell are both guitarists, and they share a concert stage Friday afternoon, but that's where the similarities end. Morello is world-renowned for his work in Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave — and has recently reinvented himself as a protest singer — while Kitchell is a 19-year-old who's moved beyond child-prodigy status to forge a career in music that spans blues, folk, jazz, rock and country. Click the link above to hear the two guitarists perform live in concert from WXPN and World Café Live in Philadelphia.

An innovative arena-rock guitar hero, Morello has more recently followed the path of Bob Dylan, but in reverse: He's gone acoustic, singing unabashedly left-wing protest songs that pull no punches. Recording as The Nightwatchman, he's recorded two solo albums: One Man Revolution and his new disc, The Fabled City.

As for Kitchell, she channels the force and maturity of an artist well beyond her years. Her considerable talent as a guitarist is matched by her fierce, boisterous and versatile voice: Her new album, This Storm, finds Kitchell sounding more sophisticated than ever, yet still gutty and powerful.
