Bringing back the '40s in both looks and sound, The Puppini Sisters' members perform classics from the first half of the 20th century, as well as interpretations of current songs. Composed of Italian Marcella Puppini and Englishwomen Stephanie O'Brien and Kate Mullins, the trio came together in 2004 after Puppini was inspired to start a group that emulated music from the film The Triplets of Belleville.
Influenced by the neo-Burlesque movement and The Andrews Sisters — for which the group is named — the experiment began as a way for the women to have fun, but they eventually released their first cover single ("Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy") in 2006. Combining three-part harmonies in an inventive way, the group released its debut album (Betcha Bottom Dollar to widespread acclaim in May. Assisted by Oscar-nominated producer Benoit Charest, the disc features a sly and amusing mix of current and classic songs.
