We'll give you the low-down on two festivals opening in the Bay Area in March. The Jewish Music Festival starts this weekend and some of the festival's musicians will perform this Saturday 3 pm in the KALW studios. The True Life Trio perform original songs and folk tunes from the Balkans, the Americas, and beyond. Klezmer fiddler Michael Alpert will also be on hand to play a few tunes. The Crossroads Irish-American Festival opens on March 9th with a cornucopia of music and literary events.
A preview of three fabulous new releases: The Chieftains are celebrating their 50th anniversary with the release of their new CD "Voice Of Ages." Celtic artist Loreena McKennitt has a new live concert recording "Troubadours On The Rhine." And highlighting our program is a recent interview with the Carolina Chocolate Drops, talking about their new CD "Leaving Eden." Listen anytime this week via KALW's Local Music Player.
This song sounds Irish – and it is. But the Black Brothers, who perform it, live in the Bay Area. Brother Michael is a lecturer at San Francisco State University, and brother Shay has a weekly Irish show in Berkeley.
This Saturday the Black Brothers will be at the Larkspur Theater, in Larkspur, for St. Patrick’s Day! Their performance begins at 8pm, following a documentary about Irish Step Dancing.
