In 1898, China granted a 99-year lease to Great Britain for the areas across the harbor in the British controlled island of Hong Kong. But smack in the middle of that territory, known as Kowloon, was an enclave that wasn't included in the lease. A place that would, at least officially, still be controlled by the Chinese. It was a large fort, built decades earlier to put a check on British expansion. But it evolved into something very, very different. 

Shannon & the Clams is a garage band out of Oakland.  They'll be part of the program at Thee Parkside in San Francisco January 9th, and the sound assault starts around 9pm.

Comedian and storyteller Ophira Eisenberg hosts this rambunctious radio hour that blends brainteasers and local pub trivia night with comedy and music from house musician Jonathan Coulton. Listeners can play along with audience members and special guests, which have included Will Shortz, Steve Gutenberg, and Dr. Ruth.  Tuesdays at 9pm.
