Work with Marty Nemko, 9/13/18: The Nemkos' best debates

Many listeners to Work with Marty Nemko say that their favorite segments are those in which my wife, Barbara Nemko and I debate work-related topics. To help ensure that both sides of an issue get fair treatment, we switch sides in the middle of the debate, so the listeners can hear each of us make the best arguments we can for both sides.  On the Sep. 13, 2018 edition of Work with Marty Nemko, in recognition of this being KALW's fall membership drive, we're doing a special edition: taking a fresh shot at the three debate topics that listeners have most often said they appreciated: How important appearance is and should be in the workplace? Is it worth holding out for doing what you love as your career? And is the future of work in our ever more automated world bright or bleak?  In the program's second segment, we'll discuss what we believe are crucial workplace issues moving forward. And as time permits, we'll offer what we believe are most potent career tips for people in the second half of their lives.

Of course, we encourage you to listen to the show, whether you donate to KALW during our hour or not, but if you do like Work with Marty Nemko (or even the once a month Barb comes on the show,) donating during that hour is especially appreciated, even though Barb and I don't get a penny-- We do the show as part of our pro-bono work. We care about your donations for two reasons: Each dollar is a vote for the show; it says you value us being on the air. The second reason, of course, is to support public radio, a beacon of intelligent, non-commercial thought specifically aimed at the Bay Area. Few causes are as valuable as edifying people's hearts and minds. That's how society takes steps forward.

Work with Marty Nemko is heard every Thursday from 7 to 8 PM on KALW 91.7 FM in San Francisco and worldwide on KALW.org.

The programs are archived on NPR.org, iTunes, and in perpetuity on this web page.
