21st Annual Alternative Press Expo moves to San Jose this weekend.

We have a few recommendations on what to do and where to go around the Bay Area this weekend, especially if you’re looking to get away from the Hardly Strictly crowded heart of San Francisco.

Tonight in the Tenderloin, the Theater of Others celebrates the opening night of their production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Curtain time is 8:00 p.m. at the Kelly Cullen Community Auditorium on Golden Gate Avenue. For more information about tickets and other performance times, click here.

All day on Saturday and Sunday, the San Jose Convention Center will be taken over by cartoonists, crafters, illustrators, and small press book makers. This weekend is the 21st Annual Alternative Press Expo (or APE as it’s affectionately known) -- the Bay Area’s largest gathering of DIY publishers and their fans. Expect hundreds of booths of printed materials to peruse, and a few special presentations by VIP local authors. Find all the information you need about the event at alternativepressexpo.com.

Are you looking to add to your record collection by any chance, or meet like-minded, local vinyl junkies? The Telegraph Record Swap is happening this Sunday at the Telegraph Beer Garden in Oakland. You’ll find records of all shapes and genres on sale. Expect a lot of punk, hip hop, soul, rock, indie, blues, and jazz, as well as some vegan and omnivore goodies to keep you fueled for all of that crate digging. Needle hits the groove on Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. at 2318 Telegraph Avenue in Oakland.

Is there an event happening this weekend that you'd like folks to know about? Feel free to add it below in the comments section.
