Do you need a few suggestions on how to spend your time in the Bay Area this weekend? Well, we’ve picked out a few special events just for you.
Grab your boots and hat and get ready for a rowdy afternoon at the 2016 Cowboy Hootenanny Folk Festival. Happening all day tomorrow, in the Sunol-Ohlone Regional Wilderness, just off Geary Road in Sunol. Live music starts at 11:00 a.m., and stops at 4:00 p.m.. There will be performances by The Polka Cowboys, Cindy the Saw Player, and more, with square dancing lessons too. You’re encouraged to bring your friends, a picnic lunch, and even your dog. Admission is free.
Right now, the Come Out & Play Festival is in full swing throughout San Francisco. This weekend, the festival features The Secret of the Cursed Chapel, an interactive performance and game at the Fort Mason Chapel. Participants will have to discover mysterious artifacts, solve puzzles, and try to escape before the clock runs out. Find details on tickets and times for this weekend at comeoutandplaysf.org. The festival continues until the end of the month, and you’ll find all the remaining events at their website.
If you’d prefer a quieter, more solitary experience this weekend, we recommend walking through the new exhibit at Mills College Art Museum, Root Connection: 20 Years of the Patti Smith Collection. The exhibit includes many never-before-released recordings, photos (both by and of Patti), and ephemera, showcased together to highlight Smith’s artistic experimentations across disciplines. The museum is open this Saturday and Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
