Weekend Go-Tos for May 20, 2016

Andy Mogg
Island City Waterways will transform Alameda's waterfront Saturday & Sunday.

Wondering what's worth doing around the Bay Area this weekend? Well, we have you covered with our Weekend Go-Tos.

Tonight, there’s an art party happening at the dump. The Artist in Residence Program at Recology provides Bay Area artists with scavenging privileges in the dump, access to discarded materials, a stipend, and 24-hour access to the company’s well-equipped art studio. Check out the latest work from the resident artists tonight, 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. or tomorrow, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. This show features artworks made by Kate Rhoades, Weston Teruya, and Cristina Velázquez. More info at recologysf.com.

Saturday and Sunday, Alameda’s waterfront trail will be transformed into the stage for Island City Waterways, a historical and musical tour. Audiences of all ages will be taken on a guided journey to four sites to experience art, dance, music and tales connecting them to Alameda’s rich maritime past. This event is free and open to the public. Each tour lasts approximately 90 minutes, and all outdoor pathways and indoor sites are ADA-compliant. Tour times and dates are up now at islandcitywaterways.org.

Maker Faire Bay Area is back this weekend, showcasing and teaching some of the coolest, mad scientist-style builder and technology skills to all attendees. The fair is bigger than ever with 12 stages, 10 workshop areas, more than 200 scheduled presentations, and over a thousand makers tabling with their latest creations. Get inspired to make anything you’d like, or maybe something you’ve never dreamed of before. Happening Friday through Sunday at the San Mateo Event Center, and the list of offerings at the fair can be found at makerfaire.com.
