Weekend Go-Tos for December 11, 2015

Heather Wreckage
Zines, zines, and more zines! Hundreds will be available at EBABZinefest this Saturday.

Check out our suggestions of unique events happening around the Bay Area this weekend.

Teleportation. It exists in the realms of science fiction, but could it soon become science fact? Tonight at the Stanford Graduate Community Center, starting at 8:00 p.m., guest speaker Dr. Tongcang Li (Purdue University) will attempt to make a living organism exist at two places at the same time via quantum superposition. After the presentation, there will be a Q&A and after party. Admission is free, but it’s recommended to RSVP.

On Saturday, over a hundred indie publishers and zine makers will be on hand with their small press wares ready to go at this year’s East Bay Alternative Book and Zinefest. Happening at Berkeley City College on Center Street from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In addition to vendors, you’ll have access to workshops on book binding, DIY community organizing, and activities lead by the Bay Area Trans Writing Workshop. See the full schedule for the day, including a comprehensive list of vendors, at eastbayalternativebookandzinefest.com.

Also on Saturday, you're invited to attend the launch of Drag Queen Story Hour for Kids. The event is hosted by the Eureka Valley Branch of the San Francisco Public Library, in conjunction with the local, queer-focused reading series Radar. The premise is simple: local drag queens reading children’s stories to local kids. In addition to storytelling, face painting and cookies will be available to all. The event starts tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. at 1 Jose Sarria Court in San Francisco.
