Sights & Sounds: Rotimi Agbabiaka

Sights & Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene. Rotimi Agbabiaka, an actor and singer whose solo show Type/Caste is currently at the Brava Studio, told KALW’s Jen Chien about three cool arts events happening around the Bay this weekend.

A lamp flickers on. In her bedroom, a young girl's universe explodes around her. With the future unsettled, she must find answers and new footing in a clash against fate. all of what you love and none of what you hate is a beautiful, emotional journey punctuated by bursts of abstraction.  

Agbabiaka: There's all kinds of really interesting stuff, really interesting storytelling happening...I'm excited to see it.

OutLoud is a queer storytelling series featuring true tales by the Bay hosted by Joshua Grannell, aka Peaches Christ. To celebrate OutLoud's one-year anniversary, Joshua chose a theme near and dear to his heart: stories from the perspective behind the concession stand. OutLoud takes place at Oasis Bar in SoMa. 

Agbabiaka: It's just a wonderful night...and there's always a theme, and the stories are amazing. I've been fortunate to perform in the past.

  Queer punk trailblazing band Pansy Division is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and they've celebrated by releasing a new album. Quite Contrary  was released on September 9th, and The Eagleis throwing a listening party. 

Agbabiaka: They've achieved quite a bit of success and visibility and have been and continue to be a vital part of San Francisco's queer scene and music scene.
