Sights & Sounds: Fauxnique

Oct 11, 2018

Sights & Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene. Performing artist Fauxnique, aka Monique Jenkinson, told KALW’s Jen Chien about three spectacular arts events happening around the Bay this week:

Catch ODC Theatre’s presentation of Echo/Riding the Rapids. It’s directed by choreographer Sara Shelton Mann in collaboration with dancers Anya Cloud, Jesse Zaritt, Abby Crain, & Jesse Hewit and also features live music composed by Pamela Z. Echo/Riding the Rapids runs tonight thru Saturday at the ODC Theatre in San Francisco.

"She (Sara Shelton Mann) has this ability to create alchemy between people."

Death is a contemporary dance performance by FACT/SF and is choreographed and directed by Charles Slender-White. The performance is an immersive experience about death, loss and the isolating grief often suffered by the living and involves audience members moving throughout the building throughout the duration of the show. Death's audiences will be limited to 40 people per night, and each evening will include a post-performance discussion. You can catch Death at Counter Pulse in San Francisco tonight thru Saturday.

“The time that the piece takes depends on the way that the audience is ushered through the piece”

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Live is a drag parody/homage based on the 90's supernatural television series. It’s part of a long line of these amazing shows, including Golden Girls, Star Trek, and Sex and the City directed by San Francisco drag legend D’Arcy Drollinger. Buffy the Vampire Slayer Live is playing at the Oasis nightclub in San Francisco and is running now thru November 3rd .

"To know Buffy is to love Buffy!"

Fauxnique and her partner, musician and composer Marc Kate, perform in GIRL at the Joe Goode Annex in San Francisco tonight thru October 20th.
