Robert Reich's new manifesto on embracing the common good

Delaney Inamine
Robert Reich speaking at the Santa Rosa Unitarian Church (Glaser Center), February 25, 2013.

What has happened to our civic life? That’s the question economist Robert Reich asks in his new book, The Common Good. On this edition of Your Call, we’ll speak Reich about what this means and where to go from here.

Robert Reich believes what we have lost is a sense of our connectedness to each other and to our ideals. Starting in the late 1970s, Americans began talking less about the common good and more about self-aggrandizement. What is the common good? What will it take to get back to being a far better functioning society?

Guest:

Robert Reich, professor of public policy at UC Berkeley, former Secretary of Labor, and author of The Common Good
