Oakland Mayoral Race '14: Candidate Peter Yuan Liu

Ben Trefny
Oakland mayoral candidate Peter Yuan Liu

Peter Liu says he’s "the world's smartest leader" and that he has developed a plan in which every Oaklander will have a chance to make a lot of money.

Liu emigrated from China at the age of seven, he went to UC Santa Cruz, he was a soldier in the U.S. army, and he works as an insurance agent. In a questionnaire sent to mayoral candidates, he said the roads in Oakland's wealthy communities should be paved with gold every 15 years. What else does he have to say? KALW's Ben Trefny went to his house to find out.

We would have at least 4,000 volunteers ready to defend the city. If, let's say a terrorist attack, with a dozen terrorists roaming the streets with automatic rifles, then we declare an emergency. The volunteers, they would be the armed citizenry. They would be able to defend their homes, their neighborhoods, against that type of attack.
